About
What the hell is The Road To Rock?
The Road to Rock is a weekly podcast that gives a behind the scenes insight into the lives of people in the rock music industry.
Each week Elysa interviews musicians, promoters, band managers, roadies, music venue owners and the folk that generally make the rocking world go round.
Hear what life is like on the road, playing different venues every night and spending months on tour.
Find out about the planning and financial challenges that arise when putting on gigs and festivals… ‘If you book them, they will come.’
Learn about the time and dedication it takes to write, record and promote an album.
Most importantly, hear how the music industry is currently dealing with the repercussions of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and what rock music fans can do to help it survive.
Who the hell is Elysa?
I’m just a teenage dirtbag rocker like the rest of you guys.
Ok my teenage years are well behind me, but the dirtbag rocker part of me is still very much alive.
I was born and raised in the north east and now reside on the south coast.
I’m a radio presenter and long haul flight attendant… Show me an exit, I’ll point to it.
Rock music is a huge part of my life. If I’m not on a plane you’ll find me at a gig or festival.
When everything I’d booked for 2020 got cancelled, I decided sitting in my garden with a can of cider for the rest of the summer just wasn’t going to fill that live music shaped void in my life, so I created The Road To Rock Podcast.
I wanted to give the people that built their careers in rock a platform to tell their stories and also highlight the damage the Covid-19 pandemic is doing to the music industry (which was a tough enough game anyway).
I don’t profess to know everything about rock music or the industry that surrounds it, however I have been present for some monumental moments in music history and I definitely own my fair share of memorabilia and merch… That has to count for something!
Who the hell does this podcast benefit?
Every goddamn person that listens to it… hopefully.
If you’re in the music industry or thinking about starting your own journey into the rock world, I hope this podcast helps you.
If it gives you the motivation to start your own band, enrol on a course that will lead you into music management or to master the skills of music production… My work here is done.
If it helps you battle mental health issues, introduces you to a new circle of friends or provides you with a place you can come to feel connected to the music scene… I’ve achieved my goal.
I also wanted to use this podcast to give something back to those on the front line of music. The places so many rockers feel at home – Download Festival, Bloodstock and Ramblin Man Fair etc, wouldn’t exist without the bands and artists that make music their careers. I teamed up with Help Musicians UK, a charity that provides physical, financial and mental support to musicians that are struggling or in crisis.
10% of all Road to Rock merchandise sales goes towards the work they do. Information about funding and their programme can be found here.
